Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife, Ciara, announced Tuesday evening that they’re donating one million meals to help those affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

In a one-minute video posted to Twitter, the couple said they’re partnering with Seattle’s Food Lifeline, whose website states that it distributes food to more than 300 food banks, shelters and meal programs throughout Western Washington.

Western Washington has been hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak. The Washington State Department of Health’s website listed 1,012 coronavirus cases and 52 deaths statewide as of Tuesday afternoon. Those figures included 569 cases and 43 deaths in King County, where Seattle is located. A more recent report from the Associated Press listed the death toll in Washington state at 54, the highest number in the U.S.

Gov. Jay Inslee on Monday ordered a temporary statewide closure of all bars, restaurants, gyms and other facilities to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

In the video, Ciara encouraged the audience to donate and to practice social distancing.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Tuesday pledged 15,000 meals to Harvesters Community Food Network. Mahomes tweeted that he and his foundation are committing $100,000 to organizations in Kansas City, Missouri, affected by the outbreak.
